An arts and strategic leader with global experience as a performer, producer, and cultural ambassador. He currently serves as Membership Director for the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD), where he leads initiatives that connect, support, and empower a worldwide community of Black dance.
Grounded in a diverse background that spans kinesiology, digital media, and live production, Joe merges creativity with strategy to inspire audiences and strengthen arts organizations across the globe. His work reflects a deep commitment to movement, culture, and community impact.
My Story
Joe Murchison is a dynamic, globally-minded arts and strategic leader with deep experience as a cultural ambassador, performing artist, and administrator.
Beginning his professional career with the renowned Step Afrika!, Joe has toured extensively, completing multiple U.S. tours of 50+ cities and performing in 48 countries. His career highlights include performances with the U.S. Department of State, engagements with the U.S. Armed Forces across Bahrain, Djibouti, Guam, Italy, Japan, Romania, and Spain, and featured roles at the Kennedy Center, Off-Broadway at the New Victory Theater, and the Latvian National Theatre.
As a stage and tour manager, Joe has led productions at the World Expo 2021 in Dubai and served as tour manager for The Showcase Tour and Step Afrika! 101 College and University Tour. His creative direction spans media and special projects, including producing educational content viewed by over 70,000 students. He was honored with the Core Value Heptagon Award for excellence in the Radio and Television Broadcasting program at Ohio Media School – Columbus.
Beyond performance, Joe has worked as a Line Producer, collaborating with publishers and global partners to align operations and budgets for live and broadcast productions. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alternate ROOTS and a proud member of the NAACP.
As Membership Director for the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD), Joe leads engagement initiatives that connect people and strengthen the global Black dance community. His service extends beyond the arts as a Board Member of the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative and an Associate Director with Fort Sill Federal Credit Union. With a background in kinesiology, digital media, and nonprofit leadership, Joe combines creativity, strategic thinking, and a passion for service to build partnerships, strengthen communities, and create opportunities that make a lasting difference.
